On Friday, March 12, most of the city's selective private schools release admission decisions on the same afternoon. Families then have about a week to accept, decline, or fight for a waitlist spot, and every school is reading the same calendar you are.

The seven days that matter

Between March 12 and March 19, decisions get made fast and quietly. What you do that week matters more than most families realize.

If you're admitted

Celebrate, then read the contract carefully. Most reply deadlines are firm, and aid awards often arrive with the decision. If you're weighing two offers, use the revisit days. They are the only time the school is trying to win you.

If you're waitlisted

A waitlist is not a polite no. Waitlists do move, but only toward families who make it easy to say yes. Send one short, specific letter: why this school, what has changed since you applied, and a clear statement that you would enroll. Then go quiet. Repeated contact reads as pressure, not interest.

If the answer is no

Schools almost never tell you why. That silence is where most families get stuck, either reapplying with the same application or giving up on a school that might have been within reach. The decision itself is final. What it tells you about how the readers saw your family is not, if you know how to read it.

Before decision day: the deadlines that decide it

Most of what happens on March 12 was settled months earlier. The real cutoffs fall between November and January:

  • Interview-guarantee deadlines (November): Harvard-Westlake (Nov 13), Windward 7th grade (Nov 12), Buckley (Nov 9), Oakwood (Nov 20). Miss these and an interview is no longer guaranteed.
  • Final application deadlines (December–January): Crossroads (Dec 16), Buckley (Dec 16), Oakwood (Dec 18), Milken (Dec 11), Flintridge (Jan 6), Westridge (Jan 6), Harvard-Westlake (Jan 15).
  • Recommendations and transcripts (January): usually the first or second week.

Common questions

When do LA private schools release admission decisions in 2027?+

Most selective Los Angeles private schools release 2027–28 decisions on Friday, March 12, 2027, typically by email at 5 p.m. Pacific. A few release earlier for specific groups, such as Milken's sibling applicants (February 4) and Westside Neighborhood School's preschool and DK families (February 25).

When do I have to accept a private school offer?+

Most schools that release on March 12 ask families to reply by March 19, 2027. Campbell Hall and Oakwood set noon that day. Check your own decision letter, since deadlines vary.

Do LA private schools tell you why your child was rejected?+

Almost never. Schools typically send a decision without an explanation, and most don't publish acceptance rates either. Rejectio exists to read what happened in your process and what it means for your next step.

Is a waitlist worth staying on?+

Often, yes. Waitlists move after the reply deadline, as admitted families choose other schools. Families who send one clear letter of continued interest, and confirm they would enroll, are in the strongest position.

What happens after March 19?+

Schools fill open seats from their waitlists, usually from late March into the spring. Some admit until the first day of school.

When will 2028 decision dates be announced?+

Schools typically post the next cycle's dates in late summer, when applications open (August–October). Rejectio updates this page as they do.
